Great question! First, find a county where there are no tattoo shops. Most of Mario Barth’s shops were set up around places with ordinances against tattooing — while this took more work, in the long run it is a successful strategy. Get to know the elected officials within that county and get involved. Opening up a shop where there are no other existing shops nearby will draw in the majority of people from that area. Some other questions to ask: How many people are living in the area? Are there any rules against tattoo shops in that area? What type of community is it?
